Applied to telecommunications, human factors research focuses on people communicating and doing work, mediated through different communication devices and services ranging from ordinary telephones to multimedia conferencing. Learning the use of these devices and services is also emphasised. Issues in research cover among others:
- usability and user interfaces
- connection quality of telecom services
- application and usage of telecommunication services in learning and different work settings,
- telecom services for users with special needs
- user-centered design of new telecom services
Human factors is a multidisciplinary topic, utilising knowledge from psychology, social sciences, ethnography, education, work and organisational psychology and communication.
