Title (give a title that is clear and reflects the proposed study
Background of the Study: (2 pages)
a) What led to the proposed study?
b) Rationale of the study
c) Significance of the study
d) Limitations of the study
Statement of the Problem: (3-4pages)
a) What are the objectives of the study?
b) What are the research questions or hypotheses you intend to answer?
Review of Related Literature: (7-8 pages)
a) Brieflly cite prominent literature related to the research questions (especially empirical studies)
b) Critically evaluate research questions, methodology and findings of studies cited and how they related to the intended study
a) What is the theoretical basis of the proposed study?
b) Testing a theory or developing a theory (eg. grounded theory)
c) Organise proposed study around a theory or core of theories
Methodology: (8-10 pages)
a) Briefly describe the design of the study. Do you intend to use quantitative or qualitative methods?
b) Do you intend to conduct a survey or do an experiment? Do you intend to use a case study to study in-depth certain
phenomenon?
c) Do you intend to do an evaluation of a programme or something you designed?
d) Describe what data collection techniques you intend to employ for your study. For example; questionnaires, interview
schedules, observations, document analysis, video & audio recordings, tests, etc.
